A.O.C. – This sophisticated and celebrated wine bar that’s been quite hyped and buzzed about, and expectedly so because it is indeed the brainchild of respected and established chef Suzanne Goin and sommelier Caroline Styne. As far as wine bars go, the obvious, most essential criteria would be a great selection of top quality wines, and of course, a delicious menu of small plates. A.O.C. soars high in both aspects. This is simply a great place for a good drink with a couple of friends, and if anything, this place doesn’t pretend to be anything else other than what it is supposed to be. As far as ambiance, service, and location goes, this place hits all the right spots.
A showstopper is their Bacon-wrapped Dates, which is an experience on its own. One would never expect this surprisingly tasty combination. For small plates that are a bit heartier, the Arroz Negro is exquisite. If you’re craving for something that’s less intimidating than the other menu items, the Spanish Fried Chicken & Waffle is your best bet. This is a place that beats other wine bars in terms of the quality of food, where these small plates are able to shine on their own and are not mere accessories or accompaniments to a perfect glass of wine.
