Baco Mercat is a Western and Eastern Mediterranean-inspired restaurant known for the Baco sandwich, which is a flatbread filled with crispy pork belly, beef carnitas, tangy arugula leaves, and a selection of caraway peppers. Their flatbread is house made as well, and it’s the right canvas to this culinary masterpiece. It’s a satisfying sandwich that combines savory and spicy so well. Owner Josef Centeno invented the baco during his time spent at Meson G. Since then, he has developed it into the masterpiece that it is now, and is best eaten with a selection of small plates.
At Baco Mercat, their vegetable salad dishes are done exquisitely well, bursting with flavors and cooked perfectly, they’re not ones to pale in comparison to the Baco, but more like a wonderful accompaniment that can stand up to its own. The Caesar Brussel Sprouts are amazing, as one would not imagine these perfectly cooked, tender brussel sprouts to shine in a traditional Caesar dressing topped with Pecorino cheese. As for dessert, it is always wise to order the Banana Cream Pie, which is a true Centeno original that’s light, flavorful, and elegant—considered one of the best Banana Cream Pies in Los Angeles.
