In 2004, Citrix Online, a software company based out of Santa Barbara, California introduced GoToMeeting, a cloud-based service that makes it possible for people to meet with other computer users, customers, clients or colleagues via the world wide web in real time. Within four years, GoToMeeting had established itself as an important tool for businesses and their clientele. In 2009, Citrix Online announced a partnership with Rotary International to enable Rotary club members to have GoToMeeting at their disposal to communicate via the world wide web.
GoToMeeting was programmed to broadcast the desktop view of a host computer to a group of computers connected to that computer via the cloud. There are also options to protect these transmissions with passwords and other encryptions.
In addition to multi-monitor support in 24-bit color, a total audio package with VOIP technology and the chance to record and play back meetings, a personal account with GoToMeeting can host up to fifteen users and one organizer, and the corporate account option offers up to twenty-five users with the possibility for multiple organizers.
