Living and working in Venice, California

Venice is a neighborhood located in the western part of Los Angeles, just south of Santa Monica. But it is very different from the rest of LA because when it was founded, the original goal was to establish a seaside resort. It was actually a separate city until it was absorbed by LA in 1926. Today, it still has its own residential and commercial areas in its 3.1-square mile area, and its Venice Beach Boardwalk filled with street vendors and performers is still a famous attraction.

Undoubtedly the most notable of all attractions in this neighborhood is the Venice Beach Boardwalk. It’s considered the #1 attraction by many in all of Southern California. It’s a truly iconic area, measuring a mile and a half on the sandy shores of the Pacific. On the Eastside you have the storefronts, mostly for all types of T-shirts as well as equipment for skaters, surfers, tattoo and piercing fanatics, and even users of medical marijuana. And you also have lots of bars and restaurants.

The Westside is where you find the hundreds of street vendors and performers. The vendors offer all manners of unique arts and crafts, while the performers include sidewalk musicians, jesters, jugglers, and mimes. You’ll want to have some dollar bills with you so you can tip a performer when you watch an entire performance.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Venice attractions. Its name comes from its Venice Canal Historic District and its man-made canals meant to replicate the European original. Other attractions include the sports-related areas in Venice Beach. You have Muscle Beach for bodybuilders, where Arnie the Terminator used to hang out. The basketball courts in this area helped develop the game of so many future NBA players. And there are courts for volleyball, paddle tennis, and handball. Here you’ll find the Skate Dancing Plaza and the bike trails.

For some commercial and cultural establishments, you can go to Abbott Kinney Road and its museums, restaurants, bars, art galleries, and stores. And the Venice Farmers Market is open every morning to provide you with your fresh produce.

This small neighborhood has fine elementary schools and high schools, but it can be a fine residence for college students. That’s because a total of 57 universities and colleges are nearby, with Santa Barbara Business College actually within the Venice borders. Other nearby universities and colleges include Santa Monica College, UCLA, and Pepperdine.

Notable Companies

Economic – why you want a JOB here

If you’re looking for a job in the tech industry, then there are compelling reasons why you may want to seriously consider Venice and Silicon Beach instead of Silicon Valley. It’s a more intimate setting, and that means networking is much better here and the community of techies in the neighborhood is very tight-knit. And the company you join can put more of its financial resources to business growth and workers’ salaries, instead allocating huge sums for commercial office space.

Celebrities have also become enamored by startups. Some, like Ashton Kutcher, have invested in a few of these startups. But a few have even started their own startups.

In addition, the quality of life in Venice is simply much better than most parts of the country. There’s the fine weather, of course. But it’s even much better than Silicon Valley because the vibe in the area is much more relaxed. In Silicon Valley, it’s as if every conversation is all about tech. But here, many conversations can be all about the cool places you’ve been and the astounding people you’ve met on the streets.

Venice is a tourist hub, and here you’ll see and meet people from all parts of the world. It’s a center of creativity and imagination, where performance arts meets laidback beach culture meets streetball hustle. Excitement is in the air, and yet you can relax by the beach and enjoy the moment.

So if you’re looking for a cool job (and not just an ordinary office position), you need to go to Venice and Silicon Beach. And you can find the available jobs at It’s the definitive job board for COOL jobs in Silicon Beach.
