Santa Monica is a famous resort town and home to about 93,000 people. It’s right on Santa Monica Bay, and on its 3 sides it is bordered by LA. The media likes to focus on some of the city’s beautiful neighborhoods with its pricey properties and affluent residents. For the people of Santa Monica, the “beach” refers to what’s formally known as the Santa Monica State Beach. It is 3 miles long, and that’s 245 acres of sandy shores along Santa Monica Bay. Just find a nice spot here and relax, while you enjoy the fine weather and you can go people watching. And there are many people who come here, since the population in the city during the daytime stretch can grow up to 450,000 people. The beach also offers gentle waves, cool paths for walking and biking, and a striking view of the Santa Monica Mountains. And of course, there’s the iconic Santa Monica Pier with its amusement park, aquarium, terrific restaurants, and the 1920s carousel.

You can also visit the Annenberg Community Beach House, Miles Memorial Playhouse, and the Santa Monica Swim Center. And in various neighborhoods in the city, there are 27 parks that offer lots of fun for people of all ages. The Tongva Park just recently opened, and it offer 6 acres of children’s play areas, picnic tables, walkways, and rolling hills. For the more adventurous, the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation is just 10 minutes away from the city.

Families and couples can also enjoy a walk through the Third Street Promenade, with its dining, shopping, and movie-going establishments. And while you amble along, street performers try to catch your attention.

For art lovers, the Santa Monica Museum of Art offers a culture respite, with works from established and emerging artists from all parts of the world. The Aero Theatre screens classic movies as well as foreign and art films.

There are many restaurants for fine dining, as well as specialty restaurants dedicated to specialized cuisines. Nightclubs and pubs are plentiful here as well. Shoppers can visit the 150 luxury boutiques in Montana Avenue, and it’s here where you can rub shoulders with various celebrities. But the great thing about Santa Monica is that LA is literally in your backyard—and there you can find everything you want when you’re in the mood for major shopping.

Loyola Marymount UniversityAmong the more notable colleges here in Santa Monica is Santa Monica College, which is a junior college with about 30,000 students each year. For those aiming to get a PhD in public policy, there’s also the Frederick S. Pardee RAND Graduate School, which is associated with the RAND Corporation. And the Art Institute of California-Los Angeles is actually found near the Santa Monica Airport.

But because of the location of Santa Monica, the city’s residents can go more universities and colleges nearby. These are some of the finest universities and colleges in the world, and they include UCLA, USC, Caltech, Pepperdine University, Loyola Marymount University, and California State University.

Notable companies

Foremost among them are game development studios that were responsible for such famous games as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Gods of War, League of Legends, and many more.

More recently, it has become a center where many tech startups have put up their offices. Hundreds of tech startups have sprouted in the area, so that Santa Monica is an acknowledged center of what is now being called Silicon Beach. It’s like Silicon Valley, except you can just go to the beach when you rainstorm for ideas.

Economic – why you want a job here

Basically, you get the advantage of having LA nearby without actually having to live in LA. And that’s a good thing for many residents of Santa Monica. Even the air you breathe here is different. Because of the beach, you don’t have to suffer that irksome smog. According to the American Lung Association, the city has some of the cleanest air in the Los Angeles region. Santa Monica also encourages car sharing and enforces an increase in the use of alternative fuels. The ALA even gave the city an “A” grade for its tobacco control policies.

Crime rates are also much lower here than normal, especially when you consider just how many people are within its borders during the daytime. If you have a family, then your children can enjoy it here immensely. You don’t just have little crime and excellent schools, but the beach and the parks are excellent places for family outings. And even though you’re a young adult with no family yet, you’ll still find numerous entertainment venues here to satisfy your culinary and musical tastes.

And of course, there’s the beach. That’s 3 miles of sandy fun beckoning to you. How can you resist its siren call? It’s there for you to enjoy, and it’s a blessing that Silicon Valley workers can’t enjoy. After a full week at the office, here you can join other young adults along the coastline, and you can just play beach volleyball or ride a bike to enjoy the various sights.
